Ahhh here is where you see Z in the title and think: the short stories for each polish is almost over! Well, I have one more post after this one 😛 I hope you got some comfy pants on as we reach another crescendo of this musical!
Once again, I lovingly push you to the other installments of this number if this is your first stop in this theater. Post I, Post II and Post III can be found by clicking those titles.
Ribbit Stickits: Musicals Waterslide Decals
Official description: 2 sheets of decals with clear backing
Inspiration: Musicals
Price: $10.50
Cap: 100
These are super easy to use: I cut out the piece that I want to use, then drop it in a cup of water for 20 seconds. You don’t want to over soak as you’ll damage the image so you can occasionally pull it out of the water (I use tweezers) and check if the image is separating from the paper yet. Once it is, had a prepared nail (polished and dried) and gently lay onto the nail. Carefully pat around it to get rid of any excess water droplets. I usually lightly blot the edges too, then topcoat and voila! You have a nifty image on your nail that is perfect in detail!
Ribbit Stickits: Musicals are Life Holo Helmer Vinyl
Official description: approximately 2.5 x 4.5 inches
Inspiration: Musicals
Price: $5.00
Cap: 75
This is super holo and pretty, the texture you’re seeing in the image is from the covering. When you remove it the decal will be super holo and smooth. Perfect for decorating your helmer. I didn’t show it on mine, since my helmer is red and I know many of you have the other colors (its bold enough to pop on any color in my opinion).
Rise and Shine Nail Polish: Pie Crust Promise
Official description: a dark Purple crelly full of red shimmer, and purple flakes
Inspiration: Mary Poppins
Price: $9.95
Cap: None
Swatches show two coats with topcoat. This has a rich formula that I’d say depending on application type will be opaque in 2-3 coats. The base is a dark dusky purple and the shimmer lights it up in a red glow. The purple flakes are small and add to the glow- you can see them in my macro. To be honest, I usually shy away from these types of shades but it super flattered me and I loved how it looked on me. Because the shimmer is warm and the base is cool I think it’d be versatile on anyone.
Rogue Lacquer: Here We Go Again
Official description: a creamy crelly base with cyan/sapphire/green chameleon chrome flakes, holo sparkle and silver holo micro glitters
Inspiration: Mamma Mia
Price: $11
Cap: None
Swatches show two coats with topcoat. Talk about smooth application even though it’s loaded! The base is a creamy grey, and the chrome flakes easily shift between aquas, blues and greens. The holo sparkle is rich and dense, there is no fishing required- your brush will pick it all up easily. No texture after topcoat either.
Sassy Pants Polish: Magic Carpet
Official description: a deep plum purple magnetic polish with gold microflakies & shimmer.
Inspiration: Aladdin
Price: $12
Cap: None on the polish itself; those with a magnet: 50
Swatches show three thin coats with the magnet applied on the third coat. I think the magnetized part is being a bit shy in my photos but in person you can easily see the bright purple lines against a dark plum base. The gold microflakes and shimmer add a warm element and sparkle and shimmer everywhere the magnetic pigments are not. No texture after topcoat.
Savannah Lacquer: Stayin Alive
Official description: a blue jelly with a touch of holo along with green to gold shimmer and red, blue and gold holo micro flakes.
Inspiration: Saturaday Night Fever
Price: $11
Cap: None
Swatches show two coats with topcoat. Formula is very pigmented and dense, and glides on your nail easily. This is insanely sparkly and there is a strong golden shift that I tried to show on the second shot. The base is a blue jeans blue that contrasts nicely with the little red flecks. You can see the red, gold and blue flakes in my macro shot. Easy application and no texture after topcoat.
Sayuri: Double Feature Official description: a pink (warm) to Plum (cold) thermal with pink shimmers, purple-pink-gold colour shifting flakies and a smattering of gold and magenta holographic microglitters.
Inspiration: The costume change from Usherette to Magenta in the Rocky Horror stage show.
Price: $13
Cap: 150
Swatches show three thin coats with topcoat. This is easily a two coater on most. Formula is easy to apply and has a gorgeous pink glow against both states, though it really pops in the cold state. The warm state is a dusky pink, and the cold state is a rich chocolatey brown. Lots of sparkles and transitions easily from the first brush stroke.
Scofflaw Varnish: Purple Rain
Official description: It features a “Prince” purple jelly base with opal, white, silver, and blue-green flakes and shreds, micro glitters in various shades of purple, and a delicate blue shimmer.
Inspiration: Purple Rain
Price: $12.50
Cap: None
Swatches show two coats with topcoat. This has a dense, rich formula that applies very opaque. It gives you that thicker appearance on your nails (that once again I prefer). There’s lots going on here, the blue shimmer leans aqua and creates lots of depth. Flakes behaved nicely. This one does dry down sort of matte, so use a glossy topcoat to make all of those goodies pop.
Serum No. 5: All You Need is Love
Official description: a medium dusty orchid purple thermal with silver flecks that transitions to a medium Barbie pink when warm and glows in the dark.
Inspiration: Cirque du Soleil Love
Price: $14
Cap: None
Swatches show two coats with topcoat. The formula leans on the medium-heavy side and applies very opaque. Be mindful of brush strokes as this beauty is loaded with flecks and pigment. The warm state is a gorgeous hot pink and the cold state is a subtle purple. Once again, I’ve been pretty warm during swatch-athons (I live in the South). This one also lights up as a glow in the dark as a bright pink! This will dry down matte so use a good glossy topcoat.
77 Nail Lacquer: Where Night is Blind
Official description: a cobalt blue with rainbow crystal chameleon flakies, green/blue/violet flakies, blue/purple/red flakies, blue/green shifting shimmer and violet/gold shifting shimmer.
Inspiration: Phantom of the Opera
Price: $12.50
Cap: 100
Swatches show three thin coats with topcoat. The base is a deep, rich blue and the flakes and shimmers give an overall purple glow. Formula feels medium and applies like a dense jelly. It creates a gorgeous pond effect since the flakes appear in various sizes on the nail. The shimmer creates a sparkle and contrasts against the larger sparkle of the flakes.
Starlight Polish: Once Upon a December
Official description: a sparkling light yellow gold with small iridescent blue flakes and a hint of blue and pink shimmer.
Inspiration: Anastasia (1997 animated film) the animated film Anastasia, and this polish is inspired by the ballroom scene (particularly Anya’s imaginary dress) that accompanies the song Once Upon a December. I had the soundtrack to this movie when I was in my early teens, and absolutely loved it – I think it may have been the first soundtrack CD I ever owned!
Price: $11
Cap: None
Swatches show three thin coats with topcoat. The formula felt like a packed jelly and applied very smooth. I did thin coats and had full opacity at three. There’s little blue flecks all over that are being shy in my photos. This one has a delicate overall sparkle and really nails down Ana’s dress in the movie. The base color is a touch lighter in person, though I wouldn’t call it a neon yellow either.
Static Lacquer: Naive and Starry Eyed
Official description: a bright aqua teal base with a blue to green shift, ucc flakes and holo flakes.
Inspiration: Naive & Starry Eyed is based off of a concept album called Razia’s Shadow A Musical by the band Forgive Durden. When this album came out I was completely obsessed with it. So naturally when the Musical theme was announced I knew this had to be my inspiration. The name of the polish comes from the track called The Exit which features Brendon Urie of Panic! at the Disco.
Price: $13
Cap: 150
Swatches show two coats with topcoat. This has an opaque and dense formula and offered me complete coverage at two coats. The base is a bright aqua that allows the blue to green shimmer stand out. There is a blue glow on tilt that I tried showing in the second shot. Lot’s of sparkles all over, I’d recommend a glossy topcoat to really compliment the finish.
Stella Chroma: Poppies!
Official description: a beautiful sky blue polish with pink/purple/yellow iridescent flakies and yellow/green shimmer.
Inspiration: The poppy scene from The Wizard of Oz.
Price: $12
Cap: None
Swatches show three thin coats with topcoat. I’m hesitant to say coats on this one. I’d say based on application type you’ll be able to get away with 2-3 coats for full opacity. This one is super opalescent, the base is a soft, but bright sky blue loaded with shimmer and flakes. Both shimmer and flakes create a rainbow on your nails that is obvious in person (see pic two). I used a glossy topcoat to really make the goodies pop.
Stella Chroma Scrub: Poppies
Official description: a sugar scrub!
Inspiration: inspired by the poppies scene from The Wizard of Oz, we are offering our sugar scrub in a Coach Poppy-ish scent. Warm and floral without being over the top.
Price: $5.50
Cap: None
This scrub smells florally to me, in a perfume way. It’s super pleasant and leaves your skin exfoliated and super smooth from all the awesome oils in it while leaving a light scent after washing off.
Supermoon Lacquer: Sun Do Shine
Official description: a bright, red-leaning orange based holographic multichrome that shifts in color from an almost ‘rust red’ to copper to gold and is filled with red-to-green aurora pigment, red-to-yellow and copper-to-green color shifting shimmer, orange and copper shimmer, red sparks, gold holographic microglitter, and silver holographic micro flakies.
Inspiration: For August’s Musicals theme, I chose Don Bluth’s classic 1991 live action/animated musical comedy film, ‘Rock-A-Doodle’! The color of ‘Sun Do Shine’ was inspired by the rooster Chanticleer, one of the main characters in the film. The name of the polish comes from the first song in the film, which Chanticleer sings (or crows) in order to raise the sun every morning.
Price: $12.50
Cap: None
Swatches show two coats with topcoat. Formula has a very rich, buttery feel during application and is almost a one coater for me. It applies very opaque and has a strong glowing effect. There’s lots of sparkles going on here, and it easily shifts from bronzes, burnt oranges, and browns with an intense golden glow on tilt. I’d say any topcoat will do as it dries down glossy on its own.
Supernatural Lacquer: Wonderflonium
Official description: a black based shade with a purple/blue dominant shift that shows red/gold at extreme angles, multiple sized platinum silver flakies, purple metallic micro flecks and dark blue/purple color shifting flakes.
Inspiration: Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog
Price: $12
Cap: None
Swatches show three coats with topcoat. This was super interesting to me, I’d describe it as a black to blue to purple. I know the base is what’s black, but it adds a dimension to the edges of your nails. You can see the blue mostly, with the purple shift on tilt. I really liked how the flakes apply super shiny and reflective against the base. On extreme angles I can see a red glow (see pic two at the cuticle edge). I’d suggest a glossy topcoat to makes the flakes pop and shine.
Sweetheart Polish: All I Ask
Official description: a dark black jelly with black and iridescent glitters, iridescent flakes, red micro glitter and a shimmer of blue that just catches the light.
Inspiration: the scene where Christine and Raoul are on the opera house roof during twilight.
Price: $10
Cap: None
Swatches show three coats with topcoat. Formula has a lovely squishy jelly feel and boy is it loaded with sparkly things. In person you can easily see the different sizes of glitters and flakes and it makes a pond effect on your layers. It dries down glossy so any topcoat will be fine. The first coat starts off sheer, but I think depending on your application type and nail length 2-3 is fine.
The Lady Varnishes: I’m So Ogre Green
Official description: a swampy gray base with green to red shimmer, green to blue flakies and a smattering of holographic microglitter.
Inspiration: Shrek the musical
Price: $12.50
Cap: 200
Swatches show three thin coats with topcoat. This was super unique on me. I’m not usually a grey lover, but the shimmer morphs this into something else entirely. The base is a medium grey, and the green shimmer is very strong in person. On tilt, I can catch a violet shift and there’s a subtle sparkle to my nails. It’ll start off sort of sheer on the first coat, but builds easily. There’s a dark, but ethereal feel to the finished look.
Topshelf Lacquer: Your Hair Deflated
Official description: a gorgeous teal blue base, with color shifting flakes that glow with a super shifting pigment that shifts from violet to neon green!
Inspiration: HairSpray the Musical
Price: $13
Cap: None
Swatches show three coats with topcoat. Formula feels like a jelly, and builds easily. You’ll see a pink shimmer mostly, but on tilt it just lights up. The green shift is very obvious in person and the flakes laid down nice and flat. There’s a densely scatted sparkle and no texture after topcoat.
Turtle Tootsies Polish: Shipoopi!
Official description: This is a bright bubblegum pink holo polish with red shimmer, neon pink flakies and purple/pink chameleon flakies.
Inspiration: The Music Man
Price: $11
Cap: 250
Swatches show three thin coats with topcoat. I think most will find full opacity at 2-3 coats depending on nail length and application style. I might be a little blurry eyed at this point in the game, but I feel like my swatches are leaning a just a tiny bit red on my monitor. In person, it’s a legit bubblegum pink. Formula has a nice crelly feel and applies smoothly. The holo is a touch subtle but gives a scattered sparkle with the flakes coming up on the brush easily. No fishing here! Any topcoat will be fine, I used a glossy one here.
Vibrant Vinyls: Tough Cookie
Official description: fast and hard quick dry top coat- a sweet, yummy, snickerdoodle scent with top notes of sugar, cinnamon, caramel, and a creamy butter, rounded out with a smooth base of vanilla
Inspiration: Cookie Lyon from Empire
Price: $6.99
Cap: 250
Ok, so testing nail things- I always go to extremes. I picked a super matte to see how well Tough Cookie was going to gloss things up. (A Zoya matte if you’re curious) and holy hell it gave a thick gloss that dried quickly and smelled lovely. I got mostly a sweet cinnamon smell (to me) when wearing for the day. This is like Seche, if we all actually liked Seche’s performance. It’s medium consistency and glides easily over the polish. If you’re looking for a high gloss, super fast dry- try this one out!
Wildflower Lacquer: Burnin up the Quarter Mile
Official description: a gray/brown polish with red copper shimmer, silver flakies, and loaded with linear holo. This polish is very shifty!
Inspiration: Greased Lightning scene from Grease
Price: $12
Cap: 80
Swatches show three thin coats with topcoat. Formula feels light, but builds easily in 2-3 coats. Where to begin with this one? (I really dug it) The shimmer appears a strong red in person against a grayed brown and easily shifts to a rich copper on tilt. The flakes gives a reflective appearance and laid down flat. The holo is nice and strong in person too. No texture after topcoat.
Zombie Claw Polish: Wildcats
Official description: a white crelly with different red holo glitters and flakes
Inspiration: Zac Efron’s basketball outfit from High School Musical
Price: $12
Cap: 100
Swatches show three thin coats with topcoat. Formula has a medium feel and applied/built easily, even with being loaded with flakes and glitters. I feel like the white isn’t a stark white, but a creamed white (if that makes sense). Nails are smooth to the touch after topcoat.
***Alright. So that’s it for polish. This next portion, I am adding as I had a mixup with what is being offered for the Indie Polish Pickup site (massive apologies to the makers!). The following will be offered through the polish pickup site this weekend.***
Baroness X: Acetone Antidote in the scent 2% Butterscotch Ripple
Official description: butterscotch based with rum cake notes
Inspiration: Inspired by the invention room scene in the 1971 musical Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Willy Wonka, played by Gene Wilder, exclaims “Invention my dear friends is 93% perspiration, 6% electricity, 4% evaporation, and 2 % butterscotch ripple.”
Price: $4.50
Cap: 250
This scent is just… wow. I’d like to mention that I am NOT a butterscotch lover, like AT ALL so I don’t know if it’s the rum cake rounding it out or what but this is a butterscotch your girl can totally get behind. It’s buttery and creamy scented and damn it smells so edible. I add one full vial to roughly 6-7-ish ounces of pure acetone (I have a store bought pump so I think it’s about 7 ounces when full) and it softens the harshness of the acetone while giving a moisturizing linger on my cuticles. Super handy during swatch-athons when I am having to spot clean between latex removal.
Cuter Cuticles: Sex is in the Heel (barrier butter)
Official description: scented like Hot Tamales candy- hot cinnamon and sweet, sweet candy
Inspiration: Kinky Boots
Price: $6 USD
Cap: 150
This smells JUST like Hot Tamales! Like, legit my hubs was asking where they were the nights I was trying this out so that I could report back on here. The formula melts easily when you rub your fingers on it (see photo three) and applies thinly on your cuticles, though like its name it creates an awesome barrier on your skin. I can see this being awesome during the colder months and protecting against chapped skin. I like to apply oils under my free edge to prevent bending and this did the trick.
Cuter Cuticles: Sex is in the Heel (cuticle oil)
Official description: scented like Hot Tamales candy- hot cinnamon and sweet, sweet candy
Inspiration: Kinky Boots
Price: $6 USD
Cap: 150
You’re seeing right- there’s fun little red glitters in there! They come out through the roller easily and you’ll get some fun specks on your skin after applying. Between this and the barrier butter, the scent is nice and strong though not over powering. Someone would have to be in your personal space to smell it (my hubs does not understand personal boundaries with me lol). Comparing the mani photo with this and the butter, you can see this has a lighter feel than the butter so those that prefer a lighter feel when moisturizing would appreciate this. Though the butter is awesome for nightly application, just my personal preference.
Ever After (cuticle crelly): Strawberries and Champagne (2 ounce jar)
Official description: it’s sweet and perfectly ripened strawberries intertwined with the sparkling bubbles of crisp champagne grapefruit, champagne grapes and sweet plums. Each jar contains a sample size of Semptember’s cuticle crelly.
Price: $6
Cap: None
This crelly has a silky dense, but light feel when rubbing it in. I’ve been using it as a hand cream in addition to a cuticle cream to be honest and my skin is super soft afterwards. The scent has a light effervescent scent with a fruity dominant note. It’s very pleasant and I think nailed the strawberry and champagne scent.
It girl Stamping plate: LE104 Mini Stamping Plate
Official description: Exquisitely designed and produced in the USA from the highest quality stainless steel and using the most accurate machining processes, this limited-edition mini stamping plate, LE104 offers a variety of musical theatre themed images featuring all my favorite shows, plus a full-nail pattern of music notes and piano keyboard. This MINI plate is 6cm long by 4cm wide, approximately 2.4 x 1.6 inches.
Inspiration: Musicals
Price: $5
Cap: 100
I did a Phantom mani and easily had images pick up. for being a mini plate, I think the images still went well with my wide nails. It is etched just right. I had no issues from the start to get the stamper to pick up. Super cute and I think would make for some gorgeous manis with the polishes offered this month!
Lilly Anne’s Garden (lotion): The Cafe Musain
Official description: French Vanilla Cappuccino
Inspiration: Les Miserables
Price: $5.50
Cap: None
You know when you walk into a Starbucks and that smell hits you? That’s what Cafe Musain smells like to me. A trip to a coffee shop. You can easily smell espresso with a vanilla undertone. It reminds me of fall. Lilly Anne’s Garden lotions have a dense feel and soak in very well to skin. This makes a great hand cream as well as full body.
