Polish Pickup April 2019: Famous Works of Art

prsample

Hello lovelies! I have a fresh PPU post for you all today! This month we are revisiting the first theme as it is Polish Pickups anniversary! I have twelve goodies to show you guys in the theme famous works of art, so let’s get to it!

Baroness X- House of Bones: a blue/purple/red/copper multichrome base with green/blue/purple shifting magnetic pigment and a sprinkling of the following: metallic gold flakies, green/blue/purple ghost flakies, and hot pink holo micro shred glitter

  • Inspiration: the rooftop of Antoni Gaudi’s Casa Batlló
  • Cap: None
  • Price: $11.50

Swatches show two coats magnetized with topcoat. Formula is rich and applies very opaque with the magnetic pigment giving lots of room. The base comes off mostly as an inky dark blue and the magnetic particles shift easily from purple to green. There’s lots of sparkles here and the hot pink flecks really pop over the base. No texture after topcoat.

Baroness X Acetone Antidote: Almond Orange Spire

  • Inspiration: The fruit spires on Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia. These jewel-like spires are decorated with colorful mosaic fruits, made of sparking Venetian glass. They represent fruits for each season of the year – peaches, cherries, figs, pomegranates, almonds, oranges, etc.
  • Cap: None
  • Price: $4.25

This month we have a scent that smells strongly of almond and oranges, it’s yummy and delicious (no eating though lol) I use one full bottle in roughly seven ounces of pure acetone and it gives me the power of full acetone without drying out my cuticles while leaving a lingering scent behind.

Blush Lacquers- A Dance on the Sand– A dreary steel blue base with a pink to gold shifting shimmer, gold flake, copper flake, red to orange to gold shifting multichrome flake and scattered holo pigment.

  • Inspiration: The Singing Butler by by Jack Vettriano
  • Cap: None
  • Price: $11.00

Swatches show three coats with topcoat. Formula is on the medium/light side and builds quickly. I went in a bit thin with my coats to really get those flakes to pop so if you go in a touch heavier I could see two coats being just fine. This one has a metallic reflective sparkle with a strong holo sparkling all over and the flakes shift in warm tones of reds, coppers and oranges. I’d describe the base color and leaning almost dusky grey here with a steel blue undertone. No texture after topcoat.

Cameo Colours Lacquers- I’d Give My Ear For An Iris: A deep indigo base with a green-blue-purple shift, a touch of scattered holo sparkle, speckled with purple-blue, lime-blue-gold, gold metallic, and silver holo micro flakes.

  • Inspiration: Van Gogh’s Irises
  • Cap: 95 bottles
  • Price: $11.00

Swatches show two coats with topcoat. Formula is rich and applies very opaque on the nail. This has loads of depth with a strong deep indigo shift in the shimmer. Lot’s of sparkles here as well, and all behaved perfectly. No texture after topcoat.

Crystal Knockout- Miss Unicorn: A bright purple base with an indigo aurora, iridescent flakes in blue, gold, and green, and micro holographic glitter in pink, gold, and aqua.

  • Inspiration: Fantasy artist Josephine Wall’s “My Lady Unicorn”
  • Cap: None
  • Price: $13.00

Swatches show three coats with topcoat. Formula feels medium, and I’d say 2-3 for opacity. This one is a rich in your face purple with a strong pink-y type glow. Lots of sparkles here and well, with no texture after topcoat.

Girly Bits- Not Waterlillies: an intentionally sheer cyan blue base with amazing copper-red to green colour shifting shimmer, and blue to aqua colour shifting iridescent flakes.

  • Inspiration: From Pam: “While skimming works of art for inspiration, I came upon a wonderful lithograph by Sunol Alvar, and I immediately thought of this polish that I have had sitting in my arsenal of prototypes for a while. I added some blue colour shifting flakes to my original prototype and Voila! This is ‘Not Waterlilies’ =)”
  • Cap: 375 bottles
  • Price: $13.00

Swatches show three coats with topcoat. Formula is light and builds up easily. Even at three coats you’ll see some nail line but I think it gives a delicate effect overall. The base is a lovely bright cyan and the shimmer is crazy strong easily shifting from red to green. The flakes behaved lovely and give an iridescent effect overall. No texture after topcoat.

Indie by Patty Lopes- Mysterious Smile: a shimmery burgundy/gold duochrome base, multichrome flakies, red holo glitters, and silver holo micro glitters.

  • Inspiration: Leonardo DaVinci’s Mona Lisa
  • Cap: 75 bottles
  • Price: $12.00

Swatches show two coats with topcoat. Formula feels medium and applies opaque on the nail. This is what I would describe as a warm duochrome, it comes off as an almost brown burgundy copper, with a lovely gold shift. Lot’s of sparkles to be seen here as well,  and no texture after topcoat.

Jior Couture- Lapeche 1981: a quad-thermal that transitions to 4 unique colors and it is packed with 3 different aurora pigments to give it a unique look with each color shift! The shifting colors are: Cold- Chartreuse Cool- Sage Warm- Periwinkle Hot- Cornflower

  • Inspiration: Jean-Michel Basquiat (December 22, 1960- August 12, 1988) was an American artist of Haitian and Puerto Rican descent. Basquiat’s art focused on suggestive dichotomies. His painting ‘Fishing’ was one of the most famous graffiti painting by Basquiat. (Untitled) Fishing was created in 1981.
  • Cap: None
  • Price: $12.50

Swatches show three coats with topcoat. So several of my blogger packs were destroyed the week this came in and my bottle arrived heat shocked so unfortunately I was not able to capture all four states of this one, including the really cold states which is a shame as this is stunning. Please check out the other amazing swatches of this one on the PPU site to see all the colors. Formula is on the medium/light side and builds quickly. The shimmer is crazy strong and it dries down a touch matte so I’d recommend a glossy topcoat to really bring that shimmer out.

Lemming Lacquer- Birth of Venus: an ocean blue jelly with a rainbow mix of iridescent flakes with dominant shades of purple, blue, pink, orange, and gold.

  • Inspiration: The Birth of Venus by Sandro Botticelli.
  • Cap: 275 bottles
  • Price: $13.00

Swatches show two coats with topcoat. Formula feels super squishy and medium/heavy. This is a lovely rich blue base, I feel like on my monitor this is coming off color accurate, as there’s a touch of a teal lean to it. This is loaded with a rainbow of colors for flakies in an array of sizes. I’d recommend going gently on your brush strokes to exploit those flakes along with a glossy topcoat to seal everything in. No texture after topcoat.

Night Owl Lacquer- Poplars and Sunset: a taupe base filled with lots of red/gold/green aurora shimmer and charcoal flakes

  • Inspiration: Vincent van Gogh’s 1884 Avenue of Poplars at Sunset.
  • Cap: 360 bottles
  • Price: $12.50

Swatches show three coats with topcoat. Formula feels medium and builds quickly on the nail. The base is a neutral taupe to me, and leans almost nude like against my skin tone. I’d describe it as an amped up neutral. The shimmer is very strong and you can easily see it shift from red to green to gold in person. The flakes add a cool toned depth, and this does dry down almost satin like, so I’d recommend a glossy topcoat to make that shimmer pop. No texture after topcoat.

Pretty Beautiful Unlimited- Walk Among Blossoms: a lightly tinted dirty orange base that enhances the multichrome pigment that shifts violet/red/orange/gold, scattered holographic pigment and micro flakies and a mix of crystal chameleon and UCC flakies.

  • Inspiration: artist Salva Ilyayev
  • Cap: 110 bottles
  • Price: $12.00

Swatches show three coats with topcoat. Formula feels on the medium side and applies very opaque. The base appears to me as a burgundy shade, with copper and gold at angles. This pretty is loaded with flakes and holo pigments so sparkles galore! No texture after topcoat.

Sassy Cats Lacquer- Mistakes: a red jelly polish with a blue to purple magnetic shift with shifting ghost flakes blue gold, pink, to purple plus gold shimmer flakes.

  • Inspiration: Bob ross painting red sunset
  • Cap: 75 bottles
  • Price: $13.00

Swatches show two coats magnetized with topcoat. Formula feels glossy and squishy on application. This builds up quickly and is super sparkly. The base is a cool toned darkened ruby in my opinion where all of those sparkles appear with the magnetic pigment appearing as a strong purple to blue shift. No texture after topcoat.
