Iiit’s that time again!! Polish Pickup August 2019 is right around the corner and I think this month’s ‘at the carnival’ theme is legit one of my favorite months so far! There’s so many AMAZINGLY scented goodies and gorgeous polishes, trust me when I say my wallet is quivering with fear along with everyone else’s! This is one EPIC month! Let’s get to the goodies in alphabetical order!

Baroness X: Carnival Glass– a topper with green/blue/violet/copper magnetic pigment, pink to green aurora shimmer, orange to green iridescent flakes, green to violet iridescent flakes and blue to red UCC flakes.

  • Inspiration: Carnival glass
  • Price: $12.50
  • Cap: None

Swatches show one coats magnetized over a cobalt blue. This feels very glassy and jelly on application and is very opaque for a jelly, as you can see it totally transformed a bright blue. The magnetic pigment has lots of movement and shift to it, and no texture after topcoat.

Baroness X Acetone Antidote: Lemon Beignet

  • Inspiration: Beignets in Mardi Gras
  • Price: $4.25
  • Cap: None

I use one vial of this stuff into roughly seven ounces of acetone in a pump bottle. This scent is DIVINE. It’s a strong bakery scent with loads of lemony goodness to it, sweet and yummy smelling. It leaves your cuticles moisturized with the power of your acetone without leaving ashy skin. It is recommended to use one vial in 6-8 ounces of acetone depending on how strong you want the lingering scent and moisturizing abilities.

Blush Lacquers: Le Cirque des Reves– a black based polish with violet pink to red orange to gold shifting shimmer and holographic flakes.

  • Inspiration: The Night Circus novel by Erin Morgenstern
  • Price: $11.00
  • Cap: None

Swatches show two coats with topcoat. This applies like an opaque jelly and builds very quickly on the nail. I feel like the shimmer is being shy in my swatches, so please refer to my swatch video to really get a better idea. You’ll mostly see it as a bright pink against that inky base with a strong orange gold shift at extreme angles. This sparkles like crazy, and no texture after topcoat.

Crystal Knockout: Scoop Me Another Snow Cone– a rosy light pink holo base with purple aurora, rainbow iridescent shimmer, and holographic micro glitters in copper, gold, blue, and teal.

  • Inspiration: Snowcones
  • Price: $12.00
  • Cap: None

Swatches show two coats with topcoat. I’d describe this one as a full coverage glitter as it builds up quickly, and dries down matte so a good glossy topcoat will really make this one sparkle. I feel like there’s a rose gold shimmer overall that’s very strong and gives a bit of a metallic sparkle as well. No texture after topcoat.

Foxfire Wax and Bath Co: Hydrating Lip Scrub (snow cone) and Emulsified Sugar Scrub (caramel apples and funnel cakes) duo

  • Inspiration: Traditional carnival treats, Demi’s favorites being funnel cakes, caramel apples, and snow cones.
  • About each:
    • Lip scrub: Snow Cone (the scent is like ordering the rainbow snow cones at the fair) Hydrating Lip Scrub is actually formulated to use without water and it’s also chock full of oils that will act as a protective layer so you don’t damage your healthy skin while scrubbing away the dead skin cells. To help even more, we used fine sugar so we’re just sloughing away what needs to be removed. We’ve also added fine grit powders from real dried fruit to nourish your lips and help exfoliate.
    • Sugar Scrub: Emulsified scrubs are most definitely the rock stars of all scrub styles out there, they provide an upscale feel and are easier to use because the sugar bits don’t fall all over the place. We typically hear of people using it on their hands and elbows but you can use it anywhere but your face. (Please note, many sugar scrubs or salt scrubs designed for body use are probably a bit too harsh for facial use, so stick to using face specific products for your beautiful face!)
  • Price: $9.50
  • Cap: None

Lip scrub is 0.5 oz and the sugar scrub is 2.6 oz

I show the application on my hand for both of these in the swatch video, as the lip scrub is oilier and finer particle than the emulsion scrub. The emulsion scrub has a slightly larger grit to it and has a fluffier texture. I actually use the emulsion scrub post mani sessions and after shaving to really give myself an extra dose of moisture. The lip scrub was fantastic on my lips (though I’ll spare you of any close of lip pics haha) and left my smackers feeling light and moisturized. Very pleasant. The lip scrub smells of a classic snow cone and the emulsion scrub has a yummy caramel apple and funnel cake scent. It’s so good- but don’t eat it! :p

  • Cap: 250 US/ 25UK

Swatches show two coats with topcoat. Formula is rich and dense and builds up crazy fast on the nail. Lots of holo to see here, and the flakes gives loads of warm shifts. This dries down flat, so I’d recommend a glossy topcoat to really make it pop.

Moonflower Polish: It’s Not About The Parakeet!– a reddish orange shimmer polish with hints of red/green aurora pigment and iridescent green microflakes.

  • Inspiration: My Little Pony: Equestria girls, an episode at a carnival with Sunset Shimmer.
  • Price: $12.50
  • Cap: 75US/5UK

Swatches show one coat on my pinky and index, and stamped over white and black. This is a dual purpose polish as you can wear it on its own or stamp it over another color. If stamped over a dark color, it’ll give off a strong shimmer effect in green and gold and lighter colored bases will pop more of the orange base. This is a thicker formula so one normal could should be just fine on its own. It does dry down matte, so I’d recommend a glossy topcoat to really make it pop.

Scofflaw Nail Varnish: Circus Peanuts–  a soft peach/orange crème, with neon orange and aqua glitters and a delicate aqua sparkle shimmer.

  • Inspiration: Circus peanuts
  • Price: $12.50
  • Cap: None

Swatches show two coats with topcoat. Formula feels like a heavy crelly and self levels very nicely. Go in thin and allow it to even itself out and you’ll be good to go. That base color is a lovely circus peanuts creamy peachy/orange and no issues with the glitters out of the bottle or applying. It does dry down matte so I’d recommend a glossy topcoat to really make it pop.

Supernatural Lacquer: Haunted Mansion– neon green with orange/green flakes, indigo/green flakes, and dark blue to purple flakes, aurora and glitters.

  • Inspiration: Haunted houses at the carnival
  • Price: $12.00
  • Cap: 190US/10UK

Swatches show three thin coats with topcoat. This is such a bright color! The flakes are very strong giving an iridescent sparkle, and I’d describe the base color as an acid green. You can see a touch of my smile line here, but in person it looked just fine. You can definitely wear a white undie with it- I can’t imagine how bright it’ll be if you do! No texture after topcoat.
