Happy new year lovely readers!! I hope you had an awesome way to ring in the new year! Me? Well, me and the hubs played Switch and almost forgot when the clock struck midnight haha. I’m kicking off the new year with Polish Pickup 2020, this month we have the theme written in the stars and holy hell is it a good one! I think purple lovers will be very happy 🙂 Let’s get to the swatches!

I’d like to state that I am using Glisten and Glow’s glossy topcoat from Polish Pickup in this post, I am also reviewing a new topcoat duo that I will mention when/where I used it in this post too. Everything else is topped off with G&G!

Blush Lacquers: Star Crossed Lovers

  • Description: a burnt orange nail polish with a shifting pink-orange-gold shimmer, holographic flakes and gold flakes
  • Inspiration: Romeo + Juliet 1996 movie cover
  • Price: $11
  • Cap: None

Swatches show two coats with topcoat. Formula is buttery smooth and applies like a dense crelly.  The shimmer appears mostly pink, with a gold lean at extreme angles. This dries down satin like, so I’d recommend a glossy topcoat.

By Dany Vianna: Year of the Cat

  • Description: an orange crelly with black and white glitters
  • Inspiration: Kyo from Fruits Basket
  • Price: $11.50
  • Cap: 140 bottles

Swatches show two coats with topcoat. Formula is buttery smooth, rich, creamy, and strong self leveling. It dries down semi-glossy so I think any topcoat will be just fine.

Cameo Colour Lacquers: The Twins: Pollux

  • Description: A flakie topper full of red sparks, metallic gold micro flakes, orange/gold crystal chameleon flakes, electric blue and silver holo micro flakes.
  • Inspiration: an image of the Gemini constellation
  • Price: $10
  • Cap: 95US/5UK

Swatches show one coat over a medium grey cream and topped with topcoat. This is a very dense topper, going in normally you’ll get lots of payoff over whatever your undie is. There’s no texture or anything, so I think any topcoat will be fine here too.

Cameo Colour Lacquers: The Twins: Castor

  • Description: a deep inky navy with a pink sheen, a touch of silver & gold galaxy holo, silver holo micro flakes, a smattering of gold metallic micro flakes and orange/gold crystal chameleon flakes, plus scattered holo sparkle
  • Inspiration: an image of the Gemini constellation
  • Price: $11
  • Cap: 95 bottles

Swatches show two coats with topcoat. Formula is creamy and dense on application and really pops at two coats. There’s a dense sparkle from all the goodies in here, and it does dry down statin like, so I think a glossy topcoat will flatter it best.

Crystal Knockout: Spirit of the Seagoat

  • Description:  a purple to white thermal crelly with orange shimmer, gold and indigo flakes, and matte micro glitters in pastel green, blue and pink.
  • Inspiration: Capricorn
  • Price: $11
  • Cap: None

Swatches show two coats with topcoat. Formula applies like a very smooth crelly and easily builds up to opacity. Those with longer nails might need a third coat. There is a touch of texture from the glitters so a glossy topcoat will smooth everything out. I’d describe the warm state as an off white, with a very slight purple undertone.

DRK Nails: Zoo-diac

  • Description:  an ultramarine jelly base filled with purple/pink shimmer, holographic micro flakes and red chrome pigment.
  • Inspiration: Canis major constellation
  • Price: $10.70
  • Cap: 185 bottles

Swatches show two coats with topcoat. Formula applies like a jelly and is really going to depend on how many coats you use for the final appearance. I felt like two coats was just fine for swatching, but when I wear this in real life I’d probably apply three thinner coats to really exploit that shimmer.

Esmaltes da Kelly: Neptune

  • Description: a blue jelly with a variety of holographic glitters in various sizes in silver, blue, pink, black, turquoise, and holo glitter confetti.
  • Inspiration: the ruling planet of Pisces
  • Price: $11.00
  • Cap: 150

Swatches show two coats plus the topcoat duo. Formula is rich and dense on application and is LOADED with glitters. I had no issues getting excellent payoff on my nails and nothing poked up. This is one of those chonky type of glitters and is quite matte and thirsty when you are finished applying. I’m very excited that EdK is in PPU now as I have a TON of her polishes and they’re all fantastic. After using her topcoat duo, my nails were smooth and glossy to the touch.

Esmaltes da Kelly: Smooth and Shine Topcoat duo

  • Description: This duo consists of two finishers for strong glitter. Smooth Base should be applied over the nail polish to prevent glitter from absorbing the top coat. it forms a layer on the glitter making it smooth. after applying Top Coat Shine to get the glazed shine
  • Inspiration: Neptune
  • Price: $12.00
  • Cap: 100 sets

I ended up using this duo for two of the polishes in this post, both Neptune (above) and Penelope Luz’s colors. Both of the topcoats shown are intended to wear on top of your glitter polishes. While the first step looks tinted, it applies clear and acts as a foundation to get your glitters level. Finish off with the glossy topcoat, and you’re good to go. I also used it in my holiday nails video on Youtube when I wore a glitter and it worked then too. Overall, I definitely approve this system for harsh glitters, but I will say that the glossy one smeared my stamps in my experience.

Glisten and Glow: Supermassive Black Hole

  • Description: a stunning multichrome that shifts from blue/purple/pink/orange/gold.
  • Inspiration: Inspired by colorful superheated gases being pulled into the supermassive black hole
  • Price: $12.50
  • Cap: None

Swatches show two coats with topcoat. Formula is medium like and depending on your application preference, 2-3 coats are best. This is insanely shifty, one of the more shifty polishes that I’ve worn and you’ll easily see so much color roll depending on your lighting. There’s no need for an undie as it builds up beautifully on its own.

Glisten and Glow: Topcoat

  • Description:  a quick dry glossy topcoat that dries in 2-4 minutes or less and your nails will be dry, durable, long lasting with days or weeks of no tip wear, or chipping with a super glossy appearance
  • Price: $7.50
  • Cap: None

So as I previously mentioned, all polishes in this post are topped off with this topcoat. I’ve extensively reviewed it over the last few months and I can safely say this is one hell of a topcoat. It dries down glossy, it has a medium/smooth formula and does no smear stamps.

Indie by Patty Lopes: Knights of Aquarium

  • Description: a linear holo aqua base with turquoise shimmer and golden flakies with multichrome flakies
  • Inspiration: Camus Aquarius from Knights of Zodiac
  • Price: $11.00
  • Cap: 80 bottles

Swatches show two coats with topcoat. The overall color will lean more green or blue depending on your lighting, and it dries down borderline matte, so I’d recommend a glossy topcoat to really bring out those flakes.

Lemming Lacquer: Aurora Galaxy

  • Description: a fuchsia/copper/gold/green multichrome in an indigo base with green/ blue/purple multichrome magnetic flakes and scattered holo
  • Inspiration: Inspired by a photo of an aurora borealis during a wintery sunset fading to a dark night sky scattered with stars
  • Price: $13.00
  • Cap: 250 bottles

Swatches show two coats magnetized with topcoat. Formula is rich and dense, and very smooth on application. The magnetized pigment has lots of movement on the nail, and you’ll see the base color shift between a dominant vampy fuchsia, to green and gold at extreme angles. No texture after topcoat.

Night Owl Lacquer: The Archer

  • Description: a violet base filled with 3 different color shifting crystal chameleon flakes in shades of purple/red/orange/gold/green and red/gold ultrachrome chameleon flakes.
  • Inspiration: an art depiction of the Sagittarius Archer
  • Price: $12.50
  • Cap: None

Swatches show two coats with topcoat. Formula is jelly like and has a bit of squish to it. I think I could have gone to a thin third coat to really deepen it, but I thought it looked just fine at two coats. If you liked her previous PPU shade Buried Moon, then you’ll need this one too. No texture after topcoat.

Pahlish: Sea of Stars

  • Description: dark aqua packed with holographic flakes and a mix of orange and aqua iridescent flakes
  • Inspiration: The Cosmos
  • Price: $13.00
  • Cap: None

Swatches show two coats with topcoat. Formula is buttery smooth and applies very opaque on the nail. There’s so much holo depth here, and the iridescent flakes give an extra shifty appearance scattered on the nail. This really does look like a sea of stars in person, and no texture after topcoat.

Penelope Luz: Deeply Intense

  • Description: a purple jelly base with holographic glitters in purple, violet, pink, golden colors. And matte black glitter. A little holographic pigment for depth.
  • Inspiration: Leo
  • Price: $11.00
  • Cap: 280 bottles

Swatches show two coats with topcoat. Formula applies like a dense jelly and really packs a punch for opacity on the second coat. There a ton of sparkle here, and I used the Esmaltes da Kelly topcoat duo to smooth everything out. This one is a bit thirsty, so I’d recommend something like the topcoat duo to get rid of any texture.

Poetry Cowgirl: Majestic AF

  • Description: A fiery red-orange-gold multichrome packed with blue-green-violet iridescent ghost flakies, silver micro glitters, gold micro flakies, and teal and turquoise holo glitters.
  • Inspiration: Leo
  • Price: $13.00
  • Cap: None

Swatches show two coats with topcoat. Formula feels like a dense crelly on application and really builds up quickly. This is what I’d consider a warm multichrome that shifts from red to orange and gold on extreme angles. The flakes give a lovely rainbow effect in the final look. No texture after topcoat.

Pretty Beautiful Unlimited: Starry Eyed

  • Description: A blurple blue base with scattered holographic, micro silver holographic glitters, aurora shimmer and a blend of crystal chameleon flakies.
  • Inspiration: a monochrome picture of an eye with a colorful Gemini pupil
  • Price: $12.00
  • Cap: 150 bottles

Swatches show two coats with topcoat. Formula applies like a dense crelly and plumps out easily. This dries down satin like, so I’d recommend a glossy topcoat to really exploit the depth here. The flakes contrast with a rainbow against that inky base. No texture after topcoat.

Pretty Beautiful Unlimited: Wishing on a Star wax melt

  • Description: Bright and zesty citrus blend with honeyed ginger, pineapples and tart cherries followed by cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg.
  • Inspiration: a monochrome picture of an eye with a colorful Gemini pupil
  • Price: $3.50
  • Cap: 55

This one smells very wintery to me. I get mostly the citrus as the top notes, with a sweetened ginger under note, and the overall scent smells of spices in cinnamon and clove. Very pleasant, but not overpowering.

Quixotic Polish: Manifesting Greatness

  • Description: A deep blueish purple base loaded with pink to orange micro flecks and indigo to blue shifting iridescent flakes
  • Inspiration: the zodiac signs
  • Price: $12.00
  • Cap: 350 bottles

Swatches show two coats with topcoat. This is the reformulation shade, and those of you that are in the Facebook group have seen that there was a previous issue with the blue flakes. I actually like this version better as they are very prominent against that vampy base. The shimmer in this reminds me of Maxfactor Fantasy Fire (it’s not unicorn pee) but it has that lush depth to it. There’s a ton going on here, I don’t think my swatches did this one justice. No texture after topcoat.

Supernatural Lacquer: Cusp of Power

  • Description: A kelly green base with magenta to gold chromaflair shimmer
  • Inspiration: Aries/Taurus Cusp
  • Price: $12.00
  • Cap: 125 bottles

Swatches show two coats with topcoat. Formula applies like a jelly and will really depend on how you apply for opacity. Between 2-3 coats and you’ll be good to go. There’s a ton of depth to this one too, and you’ll see a strong dark magenta shimmer that shifts to gold at angles. No texture after topcoat.

Vanessa Molina: Magic Constellation

  • Description: a Black (cold) to colorless (warm) thermal with multicolor flakes
  • Inspiration: the unicorn constellation
  • Price: $12.00
  • Cap: 150 bottles

Swatches show two coats with topcoat. Formula applies like a smooth jelly and I think is perfect at two coats. There’s a lot of versatility with this one, as you can also wear it as a thermal topper over a cream. Because I am very extra, I wore it alone and you can see just how lovely it looks this way too. No texture after topcoat.
