PRESS SAMPLE: these were sent to me for an honest review
Hello again lovely readers! We are chugging along this week’s post-agheddon and I have new Femme Fatale shades to show you all! We will be taking a look at the new Unrequited Love collection, color of the month, and the fiend of the month. We’ve got a lot of Sophie’s inspiration and thought into the polishes so italicized text are from her. I wanted to keep a lot of that info since so much thought goes into her polishes.
From Sophie: The Unrequited Love collection is a 8 piece set that is inspired by the painting ‘Boreas Abducting Oreithyia’ (1822) by Joseph-Ferdinand Lancrenon. This painting reflects the dark tale of Boreas (Greek God of the North Wind) abducting Oreithyia (an Athenian Princess then later the goddess of cold mountain winds) as described in Ovid’s “Metamorphoses”.
A gorgeous inspiration, right? Let’s take a peek.
Unrequited Love Collection (Full set: $97.65 AUD, 10% off)
Oreithyia $14.00 AUD – A sheer, soft cream white base; filled with platinum silver flakes, holographic silver flakes, silver holographic microglitters and holographic micro flecks. Inspired by Oreithyia in the painting.
Swatches show three coats with topcoat. Formula is crelly like, but smooth on application. This is a softer type of cream white, so a touch off from your traditional stark white. I thought it popped very well against me. It does dry down flat, so I’d suggest a glossy topcoat.
Haemus Grotto $15.00 AUD – A molten, bright gold linear holographic. Inspired by some of the colouring of Boreas in the painting, but named after the cave Oreithyia was taken to in Haemus Mountains (Haemus Mons was an ancient Greek name for the Balkan mountains).
Swatches show two coats with topcoat. Formula is creamy but metallic like and builds up quickly to opacity. There’s a ton of glow, but also a strong linear holo effect.
Boreas $13.50 AUD – A gorgeous golden harvest yellow crème base filled with reddish copper flakes. Inspired by the colouring of Boreas in the painting.
Swatches show three coats with topcoat. Formula is creamy and smooth on application. Those with shorties might be able to get away with two coats. It does dry down flat, so I’d suggest a glossy topcoat. The base color is a bit tricky, but it reminds me of squash and I think the phrase ‘harvest yellow’ is the perfect way to describe it.
Chartreuse Shroud $13.00 AUD – A bright, almost neon-ish lime yellow crelly with a very subtle blue sheen and scattered silver holographic microglitters. The colour (and name) is directly inspired by the bright green veil around Oreithyia in the painting.
Swatches show two coats with topcoat. Formula is creamy and smooth with a touch of squish. This also dries down flat. The sparkle effect you get is very scattered, and has that fine particle twinkle effect. The shimmer is subtle, but in dimmed lighting you’ll see it. I usually shy away from chartreuse, but I think this flattered me very well.
Flower Thickets $12.50 AUD – A smooth olive crelly filled with golden microglitters in various sizes. Named after the flowering vale around river Ilisus from where Oreithyia was abducted.
Swatches show two coats with topcoat. Formula is very crelly like with a bit of squish. I think this will depend on your application style and length of nails whether you go to two or three coats. Again, I’d suggest a glossy topcoat to make this one pop.
Cold North Wind $13.50 AUD – A warm brown base with a green-blue-purple shift and silver holographic flakes. Inspired by Boreas’ wings from the painting.
Swatches show three thin coats with topcoat. Depending on how you apply, you may get away with two coats. This has a super smooth jelly feel and builds up easily. For a dark color, I was pleasantly surprised with how much I liked this one. The shimmer is strong and mostly appears as a deep forest green but at angles there’s a lovely purple shift.
Wrapped in a Cloud $14.00 AUD – A tri thermal (warm – turquoise/purple/dark blue – cold) with blue/green iridescent glitters and small turquoise glitters. Inspired by the clouds behind the couple from the painting.
Swatches show three coats with topcoat. I think some may be able to get away with two coats, but I thought that third coat really borught out the iridescent glitters. This is very reactive to temperature change. Please note, my swatches are very dark, but in person you can easily tell there are three colors: a lovely deep turquoise/green when warm, deep purple when warm, and a deep, dark blue when cold. Once again, I’d suggest a glossy topcoat.
Ilisus $13.00 AUD – A murky sea green sheer base with strong blue-purple glass shimmers, and array of silver holographic glitters in various sizes. This is the same type of formula as Lace & Ruffles/Daydream/Mirror Mirror On the Wall. Inspired by the river from which Oreithyia was taken.
Swatches show two coats with topcoat. Formula is crelly like and builds up quickly to opacity with a lot of complexity. I was stoked when I read that this is a similar formula to Mirror Mirror On the Wall. I have three bottles of that one as it’s in my top five polishes of all time (seriously, out of thousands at this point). There’s lots of shimmer and sparkle and it builds up quickly, and dries down flat.
COTM SEPTEMBER (also available to stockists)
Pumpkin Patch $12.50 AUD– A dark forest green crelly with orange microglitters in assorted sizes.
Swatches show three coats with topcoat. Formula is smooth and creamy on application with a jelly-like behavior. As you move between 2-3 coats it’ll darken out to almost black, but you can still see the orange glitters. I’d suggest a glossy topcoat here too.
FOTM SEPTEMBER (only available to FB Fiend members)
Welkin at Dusk THERMAL $15.00 AUD- A teal (warm) to deep purple with blue tones (cold), scattered silver holographic microglitters in various sizes plus holographic particles.
Swatches show two coats with topcoat. Formula is smooth and satisfying on the brush strokes. As a blue lover, I loved both the warm and cold states as they’re both flattering. True to thermals, this will dry down flat so I’d suggest a glossy topcoat. Please note, this is the only polish that you must be a member of the Femme Fatale Facebook group to purchase.
All of these pretties will be available only during the presale between September 1st at 9am AEST through September 5th at 9pm AEST. The full collection will be 10% off during this time if you’re wanting to grab all the things.
For those of us US/International, you can find these through Beautometry too, as they typically have a pre-order for Femme Fatale. The only one that won’t be available to get through this stockist is Welkin at Dusk. If you’re new to the brand, Femme Fatale ships internationally, so either way you are able to get your claws on these during the presale dates.
Thanks so much for reading! ❤
