PRESS SAMPLE: these were sent to me for an honest review

Hello lovely readers! This weekend PPU is going to be opening up for wish listing, and I’ve got my biggest review yet for 32 items. November 2020’s theme is red carpet, and we’ve got so much sparkling glitzy things. This month is FANTASTIC. Let’s take a peek!

Alchemy Lacquers: Plum Perfect

  • Description: a plum jelly nail lacquer with a golden-lime/lime/green/turquoise/blue shimmery multichrome finish
  • Inspiration: Zendaya at the 2019 Emmy’s
  • Price: $11.50
  • Cap: TBD

Swatches show three coats with topcoat. Formula is jelly like and easy to build up. I think some might get away with two coats, but I think that third coat really brings out the base color.

Aurora: DNA Sequins

  • Description: a black jelly base with a rainbow of geometric pigments
  • Inspiration: all the glorious sequins that adorn red carpet dresses and how they sparkle under those photo flashes
  • Price: $12
  • Cap: 100US/10UK

Swatches show two coats with a glitter smoothing topcoat. Formula is jelly like, but applies like a dense microglitter. It’s easy to build up and I think most will be perfect at two coats. It dries down very flat and thirsty, so I’d suggest a glitter smoothing topcoat.

Baroness X: Starlet

  • Description: a magnetic polish but can be worn as a regular polish as well. It has a berry (leaning more purple than red) base with silver magnetic pigment, holo pigment and you can see the gold microflake shimmer when magnetized
  • Inspiration: Izabel Goulart’s custom Etro dress from 2019 Cannes Film Festival
  • Price: $12.75
  • Cap: None

Swatches show two coats magnetized with topcoat. Formula is dense and rich and buttery. I’d classify this as almost a one coater. It looks so good unmagnetized, but when magnetized it’s got this lovely silver pigment. I’d suggest a glossy topcoat to bring out all of the holo.

Baroness X: Acentone Antidote in the scent Walk the Rainbow

  • Description: Walk the Rainbow is scented like Skittles
  • Inspiration: all the beautiful couture walking the red carpet AND that time that Lily Singh walked the red carpet at the Grammy’s with a clear clutch full of colorful Skittles
  • Price: $4.35
  • Cap: None

This month’s Acetone Antidote smells delightful and candy like. It’s very much skittles scented.

By Dany Vianna: Satisfied

  • Description: a bright yellow with black matte glitters
  • Inspiration: the dress worn by Renee Elise Goldsberry in the 2016 Tony Awards, where she was nominated and won for her role in Hamilton
  • Price: $11.50
  • Cap: 420US/30UK

Swatches show two coats with topcoat. Formula is dense, buttery, and creamy. I’d classify this as a one coater.

Cameo Colours Lacquers: Purple Reign

  • Description: A regal purple jelly, full of holo sparkle, indigo/purple/red shifting shimmer, gold flecks, gold metallic micro flakes and silver holo micro flakes
  • Inspiration: The purple gown Lupita Nyong’o wore to the Black Panther premiere
  • Price: $11
  • Cap: 95US/5UK

Swatches show two coats with topcoat. Formula is crelly like and easy to build up. It does dry down flat, so again I’d suggest a good glossy topcoat.

Crystal Knockout: Gala Gaga

  • Description: A magenta to light pink thermal with black micro glitters and gold flakies
  • Inspiration: Lady Gaga at the 2019 Met Gala
  • Price: $11
  • Cap: None

Swatches show two coats with topcoat. Formula is jelly like and smooth on application. It’s very temperature reactive and easy to shift.

Cupcake Polish: She’s a Lady

  • Description: A periwinkle blue polish filled with iridescent aurora shimmer that shifts from gold to red to green.
  • Inspiration: the iconic periwinkle dress Lady Gaga wore to the Golden Globes for her A Star Is Born win for best original song
  • Price: $13
  • Cap: None

Swatches show two coats with topcoat. Formula is smooth and crelly like with a bit of squish.

Cupcake Polish: VNL Blur

  • Description: A semi sheer nude colored base layer (can be used with or without a traditional base coat) that helps you use less of your favorite polishes. VNL Blur helps blur the line between the free edge and the nail bed for a smooth transition underneath sheer and jelly polishes. You only need 1 coat and it this base layer is self leveling
  • Price: $8.50
  • Cap: None

The formula is perfectly creamy and self leveling and after using it for a bit, I’m in love. I did a few comparisons below so you can see how it works. I liken this to what I’ve been using over the last several years- OPI Nail Envy Tints. It works like those, but it has a better formula and price point.

One Coat Alone

Cuticula: Look What You Made Me Do

  • Description: a soft lilac base with a rainbow of different shifting iridescent flakes, shifting ultra chrome flakes and small silver platinum flakes
  • Inspiration: Taylor’s Swifts dress
  • Price: $12.50
  • Cap: None

Swatches show three coats with topcoat. Formula is crelly like bit a touch of squish. Some may get away with two coats, but I think a third thin coat plumped it out and maximized the flakes.

Cuticula: Cloud Cover matte topcoat in the scent Sugar Coated

  • Description: a matte top coat has that perfect chalk board finish for an ultimate matte effect. Benefits include: 5 free, quick drying, matte/chalkboard like effect, long wearing. Best results when worn over Timeless Topcoat or Limitless Topcoat.
    • Scent description: Sweet Jelly Beans with fruity top notes including strawberry, raspberry, apple and sugared lemon with delicious sweet candy bottom notes
  • Price: $9
  • Cap: None

Swatches show one coat over Look What You Made Me Do. This is honestly one of my favorite matte topcoats, it has a harsh chalkboard effect and dries pretty quick. Sugar Coated smells delightful, I definitely get a candy like scent from it.

Dam Nail Polish: Jungle Dress

  • Description: a neon green holographic polish packed with metallic and holographic glitters. Hints of green, blue, black, and gold glitters
  • Inspiration: Jennifer Lopez’s green Versace dress from the 42nd Grammy Awards in 2000
  • Price: $12.50
  • Cap: 95US/5UK

Swatches show two coats with topcoat. Formula is smooth and crelly like and builds up quickly to opacity. I want to note that my swatches are leaning a touch bright. I think it’s the neon pigment, it’s just the slightest bit darker in person.

Esmaltes da Kelly: Fall Colors

  • Description: a holographic base with iridescent Flakes, and multichrome flakes
  • Inspiration: Kristen Bell’s 2016 Emmy Awards dress
  • Price: $12.50
  • Cap: 500US/20 UK

Swatches show two coats with topcoat. Formula is jelly like and builds up easily.

Fair Maiden Polish: Wildest Dreams

  • Description: a deep teal based multichrome that shifts to emerald green and magenta
  • Inspiration: Taylor Swift’s Grammy look
  • Price:
  • Cap:

Swatches show three coats with topcoat. Formula is creamy and smooth. I think some might get away with two coats, but that third really plumped it out and flattered it best in my opinion.

Femme Fatale: Dripping in Gold

  • Description: a sheer flakie polish filled with golden glitters, red-green iridescent glitters, pink-gold shifting shimmer and orange-gold crystal flakies.
  • Inspiration: Emily Blunt’s stunning molten gold dress
  • Price: $14
  • Cap: None

Swatches show three coats with topcoat. Formula is crelly like and dense, and easy to build up. I’d almost classify this as a duochrome given how strong the shimmer is.

Girly Bits: Queen of the Dark

  • Description: a densely packed flakie with fuchsia to chartreuse flakes that also flash with hints of lime and blue at extreme angles. It’s finished off with a red to gold shifting shimmer and just a hint of tiny holo flakes
  • Inspiration: Nyakim Gatwech’s dress at the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards in 2018
  • Price: $13
  • Cap: 250 bottles

Swatches show three coats with topcoat. Formula is jelly like with a bit of squish. I think this looks phenomenal and so extra at three coats, but if you’re rocking shorter nails you might get away with two coats.

Glisten and Glow: Pink in the City

  • Description: a bright pink jelly polished filled with color shifting iridescent flakes that shift between dark blue and purple
  • Inspiration: Sarah Jessica Parker’s hot pink, ’80s-inspired Zac Posen gown worn at  the New York City Ballet Fall Fashion Gala in 2019
  • Price: $12.50
  • Cap: None

Swatches show three coats with topcoat. Formula is jelly like and easy to build up. I think a third thin coat maximizes the flakes. The overall look is very iridescent with the movement of the flakes.

Glisten and Glow: cuticle remover and cuticle oil duo

  • Description: Cuticle Remover and Cuticule Oil duo, both are scented in Cranberry Pear.
    • Cranberry Pear scent description: a custom blend of sparkling cranberry, sweet pear nectar and luscious black currant
  • Price: $12
  • Cap: None

I have pretty tough skin around my cuticles and even though the formula on the remover is very gentle, it’s still very effective for someone like me. You slather it around your cuticles and wait 60 seconds, then push back with an orange stick and wash off with soap and water. I like to file and trim at that point and then finish off with the cuticle oil. Both are scented in Cranberry Pear and it’s a delightful fruity blend with both. The scent is not overpowering, and just pleasant. I have a full tutorial on how to do maintenance with these in the swatch video.

Indie by Patty Lopes: Fashion Dress

  • Description: a pale blue jelly with a mix of glitters and flakies
  • Inspiration: Dua Lipa’s Dress
  • Price: $12
  • Cap: 200US/20UK

Swatches show two coats with topcoat. I think this can double as a topper, and by itself it is soft but very glowey with the shimmer.

Lemming Lacquer: A Lively Dress

  • Description: a cool toned red-violet base with soft holo elements, gold holographic micro sparks, and multichrome magnetic flakes shifting pink to copper to gold.
  • Inspiration: Blake Lively’s Met Gala 2018 dress
  • Price: $13
  • Cap: 100US/10UK

Swatches show two coats magnetized with topcoat. This is another magnetic that looks great without being magnetized. I’d also classify this as a one coater.

Matterhorn: Beard and Hair Oil in the scent- Infinity

  • Description: these are oils that can be used in hair, beards, on cuticles and body. Formulated with golden jojoba oil, avocado oil and sweet almond oil. Matterhorn is formulated to encourage nourishment and moisture anywhere it’s used.
    • Infinity scent description: a very sophisticated blend of sandalwood, juicy plum, sugar and black Cherry.
  • Price: $11
  • Cap: None

I’ve actually been wanting to try out Matterhorn oil (from the maker of Ethereal Lacquer) and I am pleasantly surprised. The formula is on the lighter side and sinks in very well on skin. It’s scented in a perfect unisex scent that isn’t overpowering, so I think it’ll translate very well for beard and hair oil. You can use it all over, and I’m totally digging the dropper style bottle to do just that. You can see it in action in my swatch video.

MLF Lacquer: Olivia

  • Description: a medium violet crelly with a stunning red/orange/green/yellow aurora shimmer
  • Inspiration: Olivia Munn’s dress at the 2019 Emmys
  • Price: $11
  • Cap: 190US/10UK

Swatches show three coats with topcoat. Formula is crelly like and smooth. I think some might get away with two coats, but again I think a third coat brings out the base color and shimmer well.
